The Evolution of Angry Birds

The phenomenon known as Angry Birds continues to grow and expand. Its reach is vast and one cannot ignore the presence they have attained in the last 2 to 3 years. From its first release on Apple’s IOS platform back in late 2009/early 2010, the game has spawned various ports to Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and even console sets.

The success of the initial Angry Birds game prompted several follow ups and sequels. Angry Birds Seasons and Rio were followed and succeeded by Angry Birds Space and more recently, Angry Birds Star Wars. With Space and Star Wars, Rovio introduced a new game play mechanic. The game now employs gravity that affects the bird’s trajectory after being launched. With Star Wars, many of the popular sounds and visuals have been added, as well as weapons upgrade including the Millenium Falcon (special attack), Lightsaber and of course the Force.

It seems conquering the mobile phone gaming arena wasn’t enough for the birds, as they have reached across to console and PC gaming. They are also invading our homes in most media player set-top boxes like WD TV Live and Roku devices as well as apps built into Smart TV’s. Merchandising the birds seems an obvious next step as we start seeing plush toys, keychains, flip flops and pretty much anything else imaginable.

The future for the birds is bright. A softdrink is being worked on featuring the Angry Birds brand as well as projects in film and television. With a series and a major animated motion picture in development, these birds look to conquer the media world as well. Clearly, their presence can be felt in our daily lives. Are you a fan yet?

Angry Birds Friends is the Number 1 game on Facebook with over 12 million players. They have released a spin off game called Bad Piggies which is quickly becoming a favorite. News of Angry Birds Star Wars has been released and November 7th 2012 at 11:00 PM, is a landmark day. Game developers will be online answering questions posted by the players, via Google Hangout. Angry Birds Star Wars will be out November 8^th!

Angry Birds is an addictive video game franchise from Rovio Entertainment, a Finnish game developer. I remember when the game first came out; my friends and family were constantly trying to get me to play. Now I see that maybe I should have; today’s question would be easy to answer if I had.

I have an addiction problem with video games and I actually thought I could avoid the mayhem if I just stayed away. Not so! Soon I had a mother desperate to get her hands on a “board game” version of “Angry Birds” for her five year old son. It was all he asked for last Christmas, and everyone was sold out. He didn’t want the bean bag game; he wanted “Knock on Wood” where you actually get pigs and birds and a wall to build and then destroy.

Pigs? I had never played the game so I had no idea what pigs had to do with the birds.

There are currently books and a spin-off game; the game involves chapters and series… Angry Birds Green Day which involves cooperation between the band “Green Day” and the gaming franchise. Angry Birds Space, which is an app so you can take the Angry Birds on the road, in your phone or iPad. I guess I should have checked out the game because now there are an abundance of Questions on Askmefast.com about the vast array of Angry Birds versions, chapters, spin offs and anything else that is Angry Bird related. There’s even an Angry Birds  SOFT DRINK!

There are two best answers; one tells you that you need the “Golden Grenade” from level 15; the other is “Hackbirds on Blogspot” that offers a download of the game. The biggest response is to just play the game and unlock it without a “code cheat.” Am I going to actually Play Angry Birds? I don’t know; I’m kind of scared that if I get started I won’t be able to stop. I am only human, after all, and this is apparently the most addictive game EVER! Of course now it seems as if it is my responsibility to play, right?

Okay, so first: the overview of the original game, Angry Birds, released in 2009. When I heard that there were sling shots and birds, I thought the idea was to shoot the birds. There was a time not so long ago that if you equipped a child with a sling shot, you had to tell them NOT to shoot at birds, and every kid would anyway. I mean, the fishing games are about catching fish, aren’t they. I thought you shot at the birds, they got angry and tried to take out your sling shot.

Most games that involve destruction do involve attacks on the player; using sling shots to launch birds at pigs? Who thinks this stuff up? What did the pigs ever do to the birds; or to you for that matter?

Okay, back to the game: So you launch your birds at pigs that are “stationed on or around a structure” and when you destroy the pigs you level up. The higher the level, the better the birds; unlocking new birds may mean getting special abilities and attacks.

The birds are angry because these greedy pigs have stolen their eggs; it is the players’ responsibility to exact revenge on the greedy pigs by destroying their castle and any other piggy structure. These pigs haven’t built their houses of straw, but they haven’t used bricks either.

Rovio releases free upgrades to the game and special editions that make the players happy. Changing it up as they do keeps players engaged; there is always something new to try or do.

Green Day was already addicted to the game when they were approached for a special version. Players can purchase the Green Day CD to get a special unlock code, or they can search the game for grenades and hear music from the CD in the game. It’s a pretty sweet deal. Angry Birds Star Wars

The next phase is Angry Birds Star Wars. The faces of the birds when they realize that they are now Star Wars characters is… well, it looks as if the birds are quite startled. One question that will soon be answered: Is Darth Vader a Bird or a Pig?

So it looks as though Angry Birds are here to stay, and maybe I shouldn’t have worried about getting addicted to yet another game. The resistance is calling, we must fight the urge to give in to the Pork Side.
